~ Not All Who Wander Are Lost ~

What a great quote.  As it turns out, many who are wandering are simply looking for a different path.

This subject is really near and dear to me in my consulting work.  Transformation is core to every single engagement that we’re involved in.  Whether we’re helping with strategic planning, doing market analysis, or working to improve / simply / integrate business processes or systems, there is no question that the business leaders are bringing us in to help them change and position the business to embrace transformation and change.

The reason I love this quote is that in order for a company to transform, it has to get beyond the day to day “defensive operational mentality” and put systems in place that allow the company to innovate, change, explore, and simply try new things.

One could easily classify that as wandering.  When I look at really successful entrepreneurial companies, the single thing that is common to all is that they are constantly changing, evolving, and trying new things.  This is true even for programs that are highly successful.  Companies become leaders by constantly questioning everything they are doing and making them better.

Yes, they are wandering.  They know where they want to go, they’re just never quite satisfied that there isn’t a better path.
