Seems like every couple of years I find myself evaluating CRM systems for my clients. This year is no different.
My most recent demo experience was with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. I had done an extensive evaluation the product in 2002. M$ never ceases to amaze me in how slowly they move with respect to the rest of the industry, plus their unique ability to create bloatware.
This product is no different. For example, Microsoft’s concept of integrating CRM with Outlook is to actually embed the product in Outlook. It’s completely ridiculous. Just the fact that they don’t get the fact that people have no interest in this approach just blows me away. Imagine the functionality of this beast, taking into account how cumbersome Outlook is by itself.
As in 2002, the functionality is not friendly or real usable. I actually think that if M$ worked real hard they could possibly get to the current CRM state of the art in about 10 years.
The company doesn’t even have a web [hosted] version of the product yet. M$ Live, while it’s announced, will not actually go live until around March 08.
Yikes!
