By default, WordPress is set up to display the Title of a post in this format http://02ddd8a.netsolhost.com/blog/?p=123 ... ugh
Unfortunately, not only does this show up in the actual URL when you click on a post, it becomes the Title for the Tab of the users browser. At best, this is unfriendly to humans and Search Engines can’t do much with this either. Fortunately, there is an easy fix.
Log onto your WordPress site and navigate to Settings >> Permalinks on the left hand sidebar. This should display a window that looks like this….
Select the Custom Structure radio button and add this in the box . . . /%postname%/
It should look like this when you’re done . . .
Save the changes and log out. You’re done. Now when someone clicks on a post the Post Title will be displayed in the Tab Title Bar and in the actual URL. This is an easy modification that can have serious impact for search and usability.
Next I will be adding some SEO tools to the site.
